Control over content pupils can and cannot see has long been a major requirement for internet access in schools. Traditionally, though, requests to block or allow a site have had to be vetted and processed by the filtering provider, causing delays and leaving you without access to content with genuine educational benefit.

A single, centralised policy dictated by a third party can't hope to provide a perfect fit for every user and, with requirements differing from school to school and changing from day to day or at least term to term, we realise that ours is no exception. There are no requirements for any specific equipment or software in your school network, office or home. In fact, if your internet connectivity is already provided by Exa Networks then we can do all the work.

Crucially, this means that there's no system configuration for you to set up and maintain. By shifting your content filtering solution to the internet connection, you reduce your workload and help ensure nothing slips through the cracks.

SurfProtect^® has always allowed administrators to create distinct policies for classes of user, and improvements in our latest version bring the ability to integrate with your internal IP infrastructure, greatly simplifying site configurations that define multiple roles.

Supplementing our existing IP based filtering policies, ICAP support now gives you an easy way to communicate the specific device a web request comes from. Our enhanced control panel allows profiles to be applied to these internal IP ranges, providing tailored filtering that's as fine grained as you need it to be.

Should you wish to take advantage of this new functionality, you will need an ICAP compatible router or firewall such as the Cisco ASA range.
